Governance

APHA is governed by elected and appointed members. These members serve on different boards and committees to carry out the work of our Association.

APHA’s Executive Board does work in five areas: policy, management, program, membership and deployment. The Executive Board hires the APHA executive director, acts as a trustee of all Association resources and approves and establishes annual budgets for APHA work.

The APHA Governing Council elects the Executive Board, the officers of the Association and honorary members. The Council establishes policies for APHA and for the guidance of the Executive Board, among its other duties.

Other boards and committees oversee publications, awards, science, advocacy and more.

Through APHA’s governance, the Association helps public health professionals increase their impact — individually in their day-to-day work and collectively in their advocacy and influence. Members say what they love about APHA is the sense of belonging, the opportunities to network and collaborate and the commitment to social justice. Together, we are dedicated to improving the health of all.

APHA is at the forefront of efforts to advance prevention, reduce health disparities and promote wellness.
