APHA's Student Assembly is the nation's largest student-led organization dedicated to furthering the development of the next generation of professionals in public health and health-related disciplines. Today, the Student Assembly has upward of 7,000 students and young professionals in a variety of health professions among its membership. Guided by its mission and vision, the Student Assembly works to build capacity for a stronger public health workforce and infrastructure.

APHA's Student Assembly represents and serves students of public health and other health-related disciplines by connecting people interested in working together on public health and student-related issues. Membership in the Student Assembly is automatically granted to all APHA student members. APHA members who are not students are welcome to join as well.

Students who are members of the Student Assembly can run for leadership positions of our Executive Council, including chair, chair-elect, treasurer, treasurer-elect, secretary and secretary-elect. Each position is a one-year term. Additionally, students can also hold leadership positions on the Student Assembly's 16 committees and subcommittees.

Student Assembly leaders are active in the overall governance of APHA. Our chair is an ex-officio voting member of the APHA Executive Board as well as its Governing Council. Our chair-elect is a member of the APHA Inter-Sectional Council Steering Committee. And our immediate past chair is a member of the Council of Affiliates. Furthermore, students apply for and are elected to serve as student representatives in the following APHA boards and committees: Action Board, American Journal of Public Health Editorial Board, Council of Affiliates, Education Board, Publications Board, Science Board and The Nation's Health Advisory Board.

Joining the APHA Student Assembly provides many opportunities to gain valuable leadership experience, further students' education, and network with other public health professionals. Members of the Student Assembly have exclusive access to the American Journal of Public Health and The Nation's Health and are invited to attend APHA's Annual Meeting and Expo, where they can present their own research abstracts and posters. Members also enjoy discounts on publications, travel and other resources, as well as having the opportunity to network with other public health professionals.
