Center for School, Health and Education Internship

The Center for School, Health and Education at the American Public Health Association advances school-based health centers as a public health strategy to reduce health inequities and increase graduation rates among high risk and vulnerable children and adolescents. Young people drop out of school for many of the same reasons that put them at risk for poor health as youngsters, and later as adults. Homelessness, teen pregnancy, hunger, school violence and chronic or traumatic stress are some of the social determinants of not only health but also educational success. Students who do not graduate suffer a wide range of negative social, economic, political, health and criminal justice outcomes that transcend generations. Accordingly, education and high school completion is a leading predictor of long-term health, making high school graduation a public health imperative.

The intern will participate in the Get Ready campaign public events.
