Our prestigious journal also regularly publishes editorials and commentaries and serves as a forum for the analysis of health policy.

The mission of the Journal is to advance public health research, policy, practice and education. All published papers have undergone rigorous peer review with only one of five submitted papers accepted for publication. In an exciting collaboration, the American Journal of Public Health and the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics–Underserved Populations (RADx-UP) initiative has released a new supplement, RADx-UP: Prioritizing Community-Engaged Research. This supplement offers valuable insights into the pivotal intersection of community engagement, health equity and pandemic response. Departing from conventional approaches to COVID-19 testing and vaccination, RADx-UP prioritizes community-engaged strategies with the goal of achieving health equity.

New AJPH supplement transforms maternal health

In rural and underserved areas of the United States, there is a shortage of physicians trained in obstetrics to care for women. The quality of care for this population during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum is especially crucial. In recognition of the urgent need to address the complex interplay of factors that contribute to maternal health in underserved areas, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has partnered with the American Journal of Public Health to create the special supplement “Improving Maternal Health Outcomes”. ‘Vision Zero’ Cuts Traffic Injuries for Low-Income New York Residents

Mental Health Disparities Growing Among Transgender Adults

Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals encounter numerous social and institutional challenges that significantly affect their physical and mental wellbeing. Several studies have indicated a higher mental health burden among transgender adults than cisgender adults. A recent study in the May issue of the American Journal of Public Health reports a stark increase in mental health issues among transgender adults from 2014 to 2021.
