Section Focus
The Injury Control and Emergency Health Services Section works to advance injury, violence, and overdose-prevention research, training, advocacy, policy, and programming. Section members also have expertise in emergency health services, disaster preparedness, and emergency management, with a focus on responding to injuries. We are invested in training and supporting the next generation of researchers, advocates, and practitioners in our field.

Our Members
We embrace all professionals and trainees interested in unintentional injury, violence, emergency health services, and emergency/disaster preparedness and response. Professional members from the US and throughout the world bring a global perspective to Section work.
Our membership reflects the diversity of the field:
- Epidemiologists, educators, and public policymakers
- Specialists in emergency medicine, acute care, rehabilitation, and disaster preparedness
- Injury control practitioners in state and local health departments
- Researchers and academicians
- Students, fellows, and other trainees
- Direct service providers
- Biomechanical engineers, administrators, and attorneys
Our Work
We work to achieve our mission through the following priorities:
- Educate policymakers on the impact of injuries, violence, overdose, and injury-related health disparities, and the importance of disaster preparedness and emergency health services/emergency management.
- Promote state-of-the-science coding of injury causes across medical and death investigation systems.
- Encourage federal, state, and local funding that is commensurate with the societal burden of injury, violence, and overdose.
- Support policies, programs, and agencies whose goals include reducing disparities in injury, violence, and overdose.
- Promote access to comprehensive services for the prevention and treatment of injury, violence, and overdose prevention across the lifespan.
