Washington, D.C., Jan. 30, 2019 – The American Journal of Public Health published a supplemental issue today entitled “New Perspectives to Advance Minority Health and Health Disparities Research.” The research in this issue provides public health professionals with new definitions for minority health and health disparities, and new perspectives on methods and measurement, etiology and interventions related to health disparities.
The supplement, published in collaboration with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, includes editorials, analytic essays and commentaries focused on the future of health disparities research.
Together these papers underscore the need for a focus on the exposure or health determinant rather than the outcome, the development of methods considering complex system analysis and big data, and the use of terminology capturing justice and fairness in health disparities research.
