Katie Brumfield

Katie Brumfield is the Career Services Senior Specialist at the Colorado School of Public Health. Her background is in mental health counseling, and she has been working in career services for over four years.  She has been with the Colorado School of Public Health for three years and works with MPH, MS, DrPH, and PhD students. Brumfield strives to keep up-to-date with hiring trends and career readiness skills. She is passionate about helping people find and articulate their unique value in their application materials. She works with people to help tailor their skills and experience to fit the employer needs. Also, she enjoys helping people craft job search strategies that creatively find hidden jobs. Brumfield recently became certified in StrengthsFinder and likes to utilize people’s strengths to help them in their career development.

Paul Hutchinson

Paul HutchinsonPAUL HUTCHINSON

Paul directs all career services activities, organizes the annual Public Health Career Fair, manages the student business card service, and oversees Handshake, the online career management system and leads seminars and workshops. He has developed “Access to Experts” panels to assist students in getting connected to alumni working in various fields of public health. In addition, he provides career coaching for masters and doctoral level students and serves as a liaison with departmental coordinators, administrators, and the JHSPH alumni office.

In his 20 years at Johns Hopkins University, Paul has worked as a support services assistant, a program coordinator and an academic advisor. He is a Certified University Career Coach, holds a Master of Science in Organizational Counseling from Johns Hopkins School of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Darren Kaltved

Darren KaltvedDARREN KALTVED

Darren currently serves as the Associate Director of Career Services for the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. He brings over 18 years of quality practitioner experience in career and professional development, was a nominee for National Career Counselor of the Year (NCDA), and has held numerous local and national professional leadership roles. Darren is known for being a “maximizer” and loves playing a vital role in assisting students in making their dreams become a reality. He recently co-authored a book titled “Love at First Interview: 8 Steps to Land a Job”. Darren earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and a Master’s degree in Student Personnel Administration from Springfield College.

Caroline Kelly

Caroline KellyCAROLINE KELLY

Caroline oversees all employer relations efforts and cultivates key employer partnerships both internal and external to the school. She coordinates employer focused events such as information sessions, Public Health Exchange (PHX) sessions, Career Treks and the Public Health Career Fair. She also provides one-on-one coaching to masters and doctoral students.

Caroline has over 9 years of experience in both industry and higher education experience. Before coming to the Bloomberg School, she worked for 4 years at the Homewood Career Center in both career coaching and employer relations roles. Prior to her Hopkins experience, she served as a corporate recruiter for a large, healthcare consulting firm. In 2019, Caroline earned her Master of Science in Counseling from the Johns Hopkins School of Education along with her National Certified Counselor (NCC) Certification. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business/Marketing from Virginia Tech.

Victor Massaglia

Vic is the Director of the Career & Professional Development Center at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. He is on a mission to help the helpers by connecting with and inspiring people to make a positive impact in the world. He approaches his work with compassion by continuing to develop his craft of facilitation, coaching, and teaching so people will discover their gifts and become their best selves. He is deeply passionate about social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and believes he is at his best when he is serving others.

Jessica Newcomb

Jessica NewcombJESSICA NEWCOMB

A career coach and resume writing expert with 9 years of experience, Jessica holds certifications in career management (through The Academies) and resume writing (through PARW/CC). Her aim is to motivate early career professionals and career transitioners to set goals, maximize efficiency in their job search strategy, and achieve their definition of personal and professional success.

She currently manages career services for the Texas A&M School of Public Health. She is excited to serve as a co-chair for the ASPPH Career Services Forum and support career guidance initiatives in partnership with APHA. Jessica holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in English with key skills in communicating and synthesizing information to expand the potency and reach of strategic and creative ideas.

Kristy Sherrer

Kristy SherrerKRISTY SHERRER

Kristy J. Sherrer is the Director of the Career and Professional Development Office for the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. Her work focuses on creating a comprehensive professional development training program that empowers public health graduate students with current career education, employment trends, practical resources and a community of support to confidently make a lifetime of career decisions. She collaborates closely with alumni and employers to develop creative engagement opportunities that facilitate mentorship of students as well as internship and career opportunities. Her initiatives prioritize supporting equity, diversity and inclusion, training students in being antiracist, culturally aware and responsive, and developing cultural and communicative competence to advance as a professional in public health practice and research in a diverse and global society.

Kristy’s professional experience in career counseling, leadership and program development ranges from working with undergraduate and graduate students, to veterans and federal government employees. Prior to her current role, she worked as the STEM Manager for Graduate Student Services at the UCLA Career Center, where her role supported extended funding of graduate professional development and empowered thousands of graduate students to make confident career decisions through inventive career coaching and peer to peer learning workshops, and as a career advisor for a nonprofit workforce development firm in Maryland, where she partnered specifically with employers and local colleges to create innovative, short term certification programs to train students on high demand technical skills. Kristy holds a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from the University of South Alabama.
