“Control of Communicable Diseases Manual,” the trusted reference guide for health and medical professionals has been updated. The 21st edition of this popular resource is now available in print and e-book formats.
Much has happened in the eight years since the last print edition and the new CCDM has been updated and expanded with a wealth of information, including new chapters on Zika, dengue, vector control and SARS-COV-2. Updated chapters cover MERS and SARS, anthrax, yellow fever, West Nile virus, one health, staphylococcal diseases and more. Some chapters have been restructured to better reflect common user needs.
A chapter on vector control was added to the e-book edition in February, detailing emerging vector-control methods, personal protective technology and environment management. “The chapter gives the general principles of how to really control vectors,” said David Heymann, MD, DTM&H, editor of the 21st edition. “This is more and more important as populations increase and environmental degradation occurs.”
Essential to all those in and around public health, the 21st edition of this landmark publication even includes a chapter on monkeypox. Recognizing the need for information on this rare disease, as infections spread, APHA is pleased to provide free online access to this chapter of CCDM on smallpox and monkeypox.
The official version of CCDM is the e-book and it includes continuous updates. E-book users can expect further updates on SARS-COV-2 as COVID-19 continues to evolve and the public health need shifts from a pandemic response to a control program.
