Laboratory practice book published as companion to CCDM

Washington D.C., May 30, 2019 — APHA Press is proud to introduce the first edition of Control of Communicable Diseases: Laboratory Practice as a complement to its Control of Communicable Diseases Manual — the primary reference source for disease control specialists for over 100 years, now in its 20th edition.

Although CCDM has always included information related to the laboratory support of communicable disease control and prevention, it has become clear over the last decade that the ever-expanding role of laboratory practice requires its own volume.

Laboratory Practice, or CCDM-L, provides critical information that helps round out the full range of laboratory services required to successfully control and prevent communicable diseases. It gives an overview of the latest laboratory procedures for each disease, as well as information on laboratory safety practices, the critical role of quality assurance in all testing and the importance of laboratory informatics and rapid reporting processes.

“CCDM-L provides laboratory scientists in all different settings the means to review what their capability and capacity should be with respect to specific diseases,” said Burton W. Wilcke Jr., PhD, the book’s lead editor, with David Heymann, MD. “This is a ready tool to determine what type of response is warranted, even for rare and unusual communicable diseases.”

With in-depth detail for each disease, this is a must-have for all laboratory scientists, epidemiologists, disease control specialists, public health practitioners and others involved with communicable disease control. ISBN: 978-0-87553-285-1, softcover, 750 pages, list price: $99, plus handling (APHA member price: $69). To order, call toll-free 888-320-APHA, email apha@pbd.com or visit www.aphabookstore.org. Review copy requests should be sent by email to David Hartogs.
