Description

The North American Refugee Health Conference hosted by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, promotes the health of refugee populations during the continuum of their flight, migration, and resettlement by assembling multidisciplinary experts in research, education, advocacy and clinical practice.

The specific aims of NARHC 2021 are to:

  • Identify, develop and disseminate evidence-based knowledge and practices for the equitable care and support of refugees, including physical, medical, mental and social wellbeing.
  • Define, formulate, and evaluate research in refugee health, and foster international research collaborations and networking among scholars, service providers, policymakers, and refugee community advocates involved in the field of refugee health.
  • Build capacity for the care of refugees taking into account structural competency and culturally appropriate care, including through trainees’ education.
  • Advocate for better health and social outcomes for refugees through upholding human rights and fair practices.
  • Share knowledge and experience about how COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) has disproportionately impacted refugee populations.
  • Educate around specific vulnerable refugee populations, including women, children and LGBTI persons.
