Bryan O. Buckley, DrPH, MPH, MBA, ACC

Bryan Buckley Elected Member

Bryan O. Buckley is a leader focused on health equity and system-oriented approaches across the health continuum. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Buckley is a dedicated public health practitioner who combines frontline experience with educational insights to lead transformational initiatives in organizational development, process improvement, health delivery system redesign, performance improvement and change management. He has significant experience creating and leading diverse teams to improve conditions where people live, work, and play. Dr. Buckley has also contributed to various statewide, regional and national patient safety and quality initiatives.

Currently, Dr. Buckley is the Head of Public Health at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, where he leads CareFirst’s strategy for advancing and achieving better health outcomes for the people and communities in Maryland, the District of Columbia and the Northern Virginia regions. He serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, teaching in the Georgetown Executive Master's in Clinical Quality, Safety & Leadership. Previously, Dr. Buckley was the Director of Health Equity Initiatives at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), where he led NCQA’s Enterprise Health Equity strategy to integrate health equity concepts across programs and projects. He is also part of the faculty team that teaches clinical transformation and community partnerships to medical students and is an Associate Member of the Georgetown University Medical Center Teaching Academy for Health Science, developing course curriculums with a focus on change management and health equity.

As a certified ICF coach, Dr. Buckley has a deep passion for empowering individuals and organizations through listening, reflection and framing, with an eye toward action. He holds a Doctor of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, an Executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology, a Master of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. He is a Founding Executive Board Member of the DrPH Coalition and serves on the Advisory Board for the Michigan State University & Grand Valley State University MPH programs. A member of the American Public Health Association, he is an Executive Board Member and Chair of the Development Committee. Additionally, he sits on the National Board of Creating Healthier Communities. Locally, he serves as a Board Member of the American Heart Association’s Greater Washington Region and Food & Friends.
