Public Health Standards

APHA is a leader in setting standards for the public health field and influencing public health policy.

CEPH Council on Education for Public HealthAPHA and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health are the two corporate members of the nonprofit Council on Education for Public Health. APHA appoints councilors to the independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs offered in settings other than schools of public health. These schools and programs prepare students for entry into careers in public health.

APHA Executive Director Georges Benjamin, MD, is an organizational representative on the Board of Directors for the Public Health Accreditation Board. PHAB is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the continuous quality improvement of Tribal, state, local and territorial health departments.

CPH Certified in Public Health by National Board of Public Health ExaminersAPHA leaders also are members of the Board of Directors for the National Board of Public Health Examiners, an independent organization that ensures public health professionals have mastered key public health skills and knowledge.

American Academy of Environmental Engineers & ScientistsAPHA also supports the American Academy of Environmental Engineers & Scientists, which provides board certification for professionals working in the environmental engineering and science fields. The not-for-profit organization also offers professional development for students, engineers and scientists.
