Statement from APHA Executive Director Georges C. Benjamin, MD
“The American Public Health Association applauds the action of the House today to pass the Assault Weapons Ban Act. This bill would help keep additional assault-style weapons off the streets. We urge the Senate to take up and pass this bill.
Gun violence is preventable. If signed into law, this bill would be a step in protecting our children, family, friends and communities from the pain and suffering caused by gun violence. APHA will continue to advocate for commonsense solutions to address gun violence, including universal background checks and increased funding for gun violence prevention research.”
