Statement from APHA Executive Director Georges C. Benjamin, MD

As we approach a full year into this once-in-a-century health crisis, don’t let your preventive care become a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While both emergency and scheduled medical treatments have seen an unfortunate decrease over the past 11 months, listening to your body and its recurring health needs is vital and can even prove to be lifesaving. Following through on checkups and addressing health issues is always important. And now, the healthier you are, the better you can fight the virus.

Keep yourself at the lowest risk possible. Set up virtual appointments with your physician and remember your routine cancer screenings, blood work and dental exams. Always ask your doctor if you can safely postpone care. And, at all times, stay distanced, wash your hands, avoid large gatherings and wear a mask.
