Media Advisory: COVID-19, racism and violence prevention to take center stage at APHA 2020

Who: Thousands of public health professionals sharing their research with 4,000 scientific papers and thousands of oral presentations.

What: American Public Health Association 2020 Annual Meeting and Expo — The largest and most influential yearly gathering of public health professionals. This year’s theme is "Creating the Healthiest Nation: Preventing Violence." Multiple sessions will cover the COVID-19 pandemic and racial equity. APHA members will also vote on new public health policy statements.

Headlining speakers include:

  • Bryan Stevenson, Equal Justice Initiative executive director and author of the bestselling “Just Mercy”
  • Shankar Vedantam, host of the “Hidden Brain” podcast and radio show
  • Mona Hanna-Attisha, pediatrician and activist known for her role in uncovering the Flint water crisis
  • David Williams, of Harvard University, voted one of the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds
  • Patrice Harris, American Medical Association past president
  • Aqueela Sherrils, activist known for his role in healing gang violence and director of The Newark Community Street Team
  • When: October 24-28, 2020
