APHA mourns loss of Elijah Cummings

Statement from Georges C. Benjamin, MD, executive director, American Public Health Association

Washington, D.C., Oct. 18, 2019 – “The American Public Health Association mourns the loss of Congressman Elijah Cummings, a true champion for health, equity and justice. His leadership, compassion and fierce advocacy for the people of the 7th District of Maryland and the entire nation will be sorely missed. Our sympathies go out to his family, staff, colleagues and other loved ones during this time of remembrance.

"I am grateful to have had the honor to work with him at both the state and federal levels. Our public health community and the entire nation will truly miss his leadership."
