Candidate Statement
APHA has remained a cornerstone of my professional and academic endeavors since I attended my first annual meeting as a graduate student in 2012. I recall being overjoyed to hear from keynote speaker famed activist and feminist scholar, Angela Y. Davis. Since that time, my service to APHA has been guided by a steadfast willingness to contribute to the betterment of public health via policy, advocacy, and research.
My commitment to the successful conduct of the business of the Association is evident through my leadership at the Section level where I served in capacities that began at student level as section Secretary and have evolved to the level of Policy Chair and more recently Section Chair. I have served at the Association Committee level as Chair of the Science Board and Joint Policy Committee, and ex-officio membership to the Executive Board during my year long tenure as Joint Policy Committee Co-Chair.
I am a scholar whose entire public health career has focused on addressing health disparities and equity among marginalized and minoritized global populations. With my demonstrated leadership expertise and vast knowledge of the Association, I hope to be part of the next generation of public health that continues to address the health of oppressed people while furthering the reach of the Association into Student, Professional and Advocacy spaces! In the wise words or Angela Davis, as a public health leader, “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.” Thank you in advance for your consideration.
