News outlets play a major role in shaping our perceptions of violence, but that can also perpetuate myths and stereotypes. A session on Tuesday, Oct. 27, features panelists discussing how public health can counter media misinformation on violence.
The session, held 8:30 a.m.- 10 a.m. Mountain Time during APHA’s virtual Annual Meeting and Expo, will show how scientists and advocates can help journalists cover violence as a public health issue and use health interventions and education strategies to improve their storytelling
The session will feature presentations from:
- Lori Dorfman, DrPH, MPH, of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, discussing health education strategies to help media see violence as a public health issue.
- Rashad Robinson, president of Color of Change.
