Awards


Each year, our Section gives out awards based on nominations from our members. 

Nominations are closed for this year, but please start thinking of a deserving colleague that you can nominate for an award next year so we can recognize them for their achievements. 

W.C. Woodward Award
This award is named for the first chair of the Health Administration Section and recognizes a Health Administration member who has advanced the practice of health administration through outstanding leadership, contributions in a management or educational setting and provided significant service to the Health Administration section. Nominees must have Health Administration as their primary APHA Section. Past recipients and those on the Awards Committee are not eligible for nomination.

Excellence in Health Administration Award
This award recognizes exceptional and sustained achievement and performance in public health administration, as evidenced by contributions in the fields of practice, science, research, teaching or writing; and should have demonstrated outstanding contributions of major significance to the practice of health administration. The recipient must have their primary Association membership in the Health Administration Section. Past recipients and those on the Awards Committee are not eligible for nomination.

Rising Star Award
This award recognizes a Health Administration Section member who is relatively new to the field of health administration, demonstrates potential in the health field and who has gone above and beyond the job description to make a lasting impact in their organization or in public health. The recipient must have their primary Association membership in the Health Administration Section. Past recipients and those on the Awards Committee are not eligible for nomination.

Student Achievement Award
This award recognizes outstanding achievement or performance in public health administration, as evidenced by student contributions in the areas of practice, research, teaching, volunteerism, or writing. The recipient must be a student member of APHA, with preference given to those who are also a member of the Health Administration Section.
