Congress must return to the negotiating table to finalize FY 2025 spending bills

We are disappointed that the House has chosen to pass a partisan FY 2025 continuing resolution that lacks the proper guidance to ensure funding appropriated by Congress is spent by the administration on programs as intended, including important public health and prevention programs. State, local, tribal and territorial health departments and national and community-based health organizations depend on this funding to protect the health of all of our communities.

We have already seen this administration attempt to ignore congressional intent related to funding provided by Congress through the annual appropriations process. Rather than following the House’s misguided efforts, we strongly urge the Senate and the House to pass a short-term continuing resolution to allow the time for Appropriations Committee leaders in both chambers to return to the negotiating table to finish the bipartisan efforts that were already underway. APHA stands ready to support efforts to finish the FY 2025 appropriations process that adequately funds all public health programs and agencies, rejects anti-public health policy riders and ensures funding is spent as Congress intended.
