Rachael N. Reed is the Interim Chair of the School of Health and Wellness and an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Dillard University. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Southern New Hampshire University. She received her Doctorate of Public Health in Preventive Care from Loma Linda University, a Masters of Public Health from Georgia Southern University - Armstrong Campus, and a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana. Her research interests are the effects of race and discrimination on health, health disparities, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in underserved, at-risk populations.
Reed has been actively involved in APHA since 2012. She began her involvement in various committee in the Student Assembly. She served as the Campus Liaison Committee Co-Chair, Student Assembly Secretary and ultimately was elected Chair of the Student Assembly. After serving as Student Assembly Chair, Reed was elected to the Intersectional Council where she served on multiple workgroups to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the sections. She currently serves as Chair of the Intersectional Council and Secretary for the Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section. In her role as Chair of Intersectional Council, Reed hopes to bring greater value to the APHA membership by increasing collaboration between sections and affiliates as well as working to build a membership pathway for community-based public health advocates.
Reed is a member of the Southern California Public Health Association and the Louisiana Public Health Association. She has received several awards including the Glen Blix Award for Excellence in Preventive Care from Loma Linda University and Top 40 Under 40 Young Alumni Award from Xavier university of Louisiana. Reed is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
