Who We Are

Mission Statement

The mission of the HIV/AIDS Section of APHA is to promote and support the development of high-quality public health research and programs to prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS and ensure access to care and supportive services; to strengthen and support public health policy through the development of resolutions, position papers and policy statements relating to HIV/AIDS issues; to address the connections between HIV/AIDS and its associated comorbidities; and to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and the timely dissemination of research and practice information on HIV/AIDS both nationally and internationally as well as in collaboration with other organizations sharing a similar vision.

Vision Statement

We envision a world where HIV infections are rare, and all people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and its associated co-morbidities have access to high-quality care and supportive services regardless of age, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or socioeconomic status.

Objectives

The specific objectives of the HIV/AIDS Section are to:

  • Serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of information on HIV/AIDS. 
  • Strengthen and support public health policy through the development of resolutions, position papers and policy statements relating to HIV/AIDS issues.
  • Support research into the causes, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. 
  • Advocate for effective programs to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and disseminate information on effective HIV prevention strategies to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals, families and communities.
  • Support HIV prevention training for health care providers and educational materials for consumers.
  • Advocate for programs that provide quality health and supportive services for individuals, families and communities affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • Support equal access to health care for all individuals infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
