Preventing Chemical Exposure

man spraying crops with pesticideWe are exposed to thousands of chemicals every day through food, drinking water, air pollution and consumer products. Communities often are unaware of the threat of chemical exposures, and the potential health effects may be unclear.

APHA is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance tracking or surveillance of exposure-related health effects. We're also working to increase scientific knowledge, improve public understanding and reduce further exposures.

With support from the National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry, APHA had developed materials that highlight current federal programs that protect Americans from harmful chemical exposures.

National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Exposures
APHA is a partner of the National Conversation, an initiative that brought together thousands of experts, community members and public health practitioners to create an agenda for the safe and healthy use of chemicals. The Action Agenda outlines recommendations to improve health and prevent harmful exposures. Stay updated by visiting the National Conversation website.
