Online Marketing

APHA champions the health of all people and all communities. We strengthen the public health profession. We speak out for public health issues and policies backed by science. We are the only organization that influences federal policy, has a 140-plus year perspective and brings together members from all fields of public health.

As APHA’s Online Marketing Intern, you will have the opportunity to help make the U.S. the healthiest nation in one generation. In this position you will have the opportunity to work with a cross section of departments while executing digital marketing campaigns via email, Web and social media platforms. 

Candidates should have an interest in one or more of the following fields:

  • Health communications
  • Marketing
  • Nonprofit management
  • Advocacy
  • Public health
  • Health education
  • Health promotion

What we will teach you:

  • Campaign planning and best practices for online communcations
  • Social media account management and writing for a large organization
  • Google Adwords campaign creation, editing and optimization within a Google Grant
  • Email marketing techniques including list segmentation and database marketing
  • Making data-driven decisions using analytics and reporting
  • Writing and copyediting blog posts for tailored audiences

Additional opportunities:

  • Chances to meet with or shadow other departments
  • Attend Congressional briefings and other public health meetings in Washington, D.C.
  • Participate in Get Ready campaign public events

What you’ll need to bring:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytic skills (ability to sort through data and draw the right conclusions)
  • Knowledge of/desire to learn Internet marketing and digital advertising
  • Currently using and have an interest in social media
  • A passion for public health
